In October 2024, we decided to take a long weekend trip to Turks & Caicos—a little sun, sand, and relaxation. We landed to perfect weather, changed into our swimsuits, and headed straight for the water. About an hour later, we overheard a hotel employee talking to a couple on the beach, mentioning something about a Category 5.

Our first thought? “Wait… what’s a Category 5?!” 😳

Well, turns out we were about to experience our very first hurricane! Thankfully, it was Oscar—the smallest Category 5 hurricane ever recorded (LOL). We hunkered down for the night, rode out the storm, and woke up the next morning safe, happy… and maybe a little tipsy! 🍹

Luckily, the hotel was on the bay, so we avoided big waves and any real damage—just some wind and rain. And now? We can officially say we’ve survived a hurricane. ✅ Bucket list item… checked! 😆🌪️🌴

We had heard so many incredible things about Turks & Caicos, and despite surviving Hurricane Oscar on our first night, we absolutely LOVED the island! 🌴☀️ We knew there was a chance of some weather, but hey—it was still warmer than Michigan!

We stayed at Blue Haven, an all-inclusive resort with a sister property just a quick shuttle ride away. Both resorts were spectacular! Blue Haven, the smaller and more intimate resort, sat along the channel with stunning crystal-clear waters and breathtaking views. The Alexandra Resort, on the other hand, was right on Grace Bay—one of the world’s most beautiful beaches—with direct access to the Atlantic Ocean.

And let’s talk about the experience—first class all the way! We indulged in delicious food, endless drinks, lively entertainment… and did we mention the drinks? 🍹😂 Oh, and the room? Holy cow! A huge balcony, spacious layout, luxurious bathroom, and a fridge fully stocked with soda, water, and beer—how do you say no to that?!

One of the highlights was exploring downtown, where we wandered through local shops, enjoyed a delicious lunch, and, of course, grabbed a drink or two. 😉 But the absolute best part? The local dog shelter lets visitors take a pup for a walk around town! Seeing all the happy, tail-wagging dogs completely made our trip! 🐶💙

We HIGHLY recommend visiting Turks & Caicos, but next time… we might just book outside of hurricane season! 😉
