This island isn’t just the most magical place in Michigan—it’s one of the most enchanting destinations anywhere. A beloved getaway for our family and friends year after year (sometimes more than once!), it offers a charm like no other. With no cars allowed, the only way to explore is by foot, bike, or a classic horse-drawn carriage, making every visit feel like stepping back in time. From the timeless elegance of The Grand Hotel to the quaint local shops and the world’s most incredible fudge, every corner of this island is pure magic.

Mackinac Island: A Must-Visit Destination!

Mackinac Island is pure magic! From breathtaking views and rich history to delicious food, charming shops, and world-famous fudge, this island has something for everyone.

Visiting Mackinac has become a cherished tradition for our family and friends. Every year, we stay at The Grand Hotel, the island’s most iconic landmark and home to the world’s largest covered porch. The moment you step inside, you’re transported to a world of elegance, history, and unparalleled hospitality.

One of our favorite aspects of The Grand Hotel is its timeless charm and dress code tradition. Every evening after 6:30 PM, guests embrace a sense of class and decorum—ladies in elegant dresses or skirts, gentlemen in suits or sport coats with ties. No denim, no shorts—just a return to the grace and sophistication of a bygone era.

Exploring the Island

Since cars aren’t allowed on Mackinac Island, getting around means walking, biking, or hopping on a horse-drawn carriage—which only adds to the island’s charm. If you're bringing your own bike, you can take it on the ferry, or you can easily rent one once you arrive.

Where to Eat & What to Do

The island is packed with quaint shops, unique restaurants, and plenty of activities. One of my personal favorites? Sanders Ice Cream Parlor—a childhood favorite where I must get a hot fudge cream puff every time I visit! 🍦

Pro Tip for Visiting

Mackinac Island can get crowded on summer weekends, so we always book our stay from Sunday to late Monday or Tuesday—those days tend to be much quieter and more relaxing. If you're planning a visit, make sure to book accommodations early, as hotels and rentals fill up fast! Click here for your Mackinac Island tips and recommendations from us.

Mackinac Island is a place like no other, and once you experience its magic, you'll find yourself coming back year after year—just like we do! 🚲🏰🌊
